Katniss Is Back—And So Are Jennifer Lawrence’s Best Diamond Moments

Katniss is returning to the big screen, and J.Law’s jewelry archive deserves a rewatch. Think rare vintage finds, 156 carats of Chopard, and the unforgettable Oscars necklace she wore backward.

Katniss Everdeen is back. Jennifer Lawrence is returning to The Hunger Games in Sunrise on the Reaping, hitting theaters November 20, alongside Josh Hutcherson and Woody Harrelson. And while her onscreen alter ego made the Mockingjay pin iconic, Lawrence has spent the past decade building a jewelry archive that’s every bit as worthy of another look.

There’s the 74-carat diamond necklace she wore backward to the Oscars, the 156.77-carat Chopard creation that practically stole the show, and the extraordinary vintage pieces she brought to life before they hit the Sotheby’s auction block. Her style may lean classic, but her jewelry choices are anything but predictable. Sometimes, all it takes is one unexpected detail to make a look unforgettable.

With J.Law heading back to Panem, we’re revisiting the diamonds that have defined her red-carpet style, one brilliant moment at a time.

Jennifer Lawrence attended the 2025 Governors Awards at the Ray Dolby Ballroom in Hollywood, wearing an ethereal white draped Dior gown by Jonathan Anderson. The star accessorized with a legendary pair of diamond earclips by JAR, which you could call your own – if you have roughly $30,000 to spare.

Out and about for her Die My Love press tour, the actress wore diamond jewelry that hit the Sotheby’s auction block soon after her appearances.

Estimated to achieve between $300,000 and 500,000 while on offer during Sotheby’s A Legacy of Elegance: Jewels from an Exceptional Collection auction the following month, these JAR earclips, designed in 1987, were created to resemble frost, featuring two pear-shaped diamonds surrounded by sprawling and splintering branches, set with a sprinkling of snow-like round diamonds.

According to Sotheby’s, jewelry renegade Joel Arthur Rosenthal – better known as JAR – made earclips some of his most whimsical offerings.

She has glamorously sported three different jewels that went on view at Sotheby’s new global headquarters at the Breuer Building in New York City: a pair of diamond JAR earclips, a diamond Suzanne Belperron brooch and the diamond David Webb ‘Hot Dog’ necklace.

Frank Everett, Sotheby’s Director of Jewelry, tells The Diamond Collective, “When an internationally recognized star like Jennifer Lawrence wears jewelry pieces ahead of auction, it has a significant impact on both their visibility and perceived value.”

He says, “For many collectors, her association adds a layer of provenance and glamour. Provenance isn’t just about historical ownership; it’s also about the story a piece carries. A jewel designed by Suzanne Belperron or David Webb already holds artistic and historical importance, but when a celebrity wears it, it bridges past and present, giving the piece renewed relevance and allure. It’s especially exciting to see vintage pieces worn in such a modern and fashion-forward way, highlighting their timeless beauty and adaptability.”

The Mockingjay Pin Gets Some Competition

Lawrence made a surprise appearance at the American Museum of Natural History in New York for the 2025 CFDA Fashion Awards. The Hollywood actress presented W Magazine Editor-in-Chief Sara Moonves with the Media Award in honor of Eugenia Sheppard during the ceremony.

Lawrence wore a classic black ensemble from The Row, with a dazzling diamond, rock crystal, and pearl brooch by Suzanne Belperron for René Boivin – quite the switch-up from Katniss Everdeen’s iconic Mockingjay pin.

“The Suzanne Belperron Rock Crystal, Pearl, and Diamond Brooch is an exquisite example of early 20th-century French jewelry design, created circa 1930,” explains Everett. “The brooch is of tapered cylindrical design, crafted from carved rock crystal and adorned with Old European, single, and rose-cut diamonds. It culminates in two pearls —one round and one button-shaped—exemplifying Belperron’s signature blend of organic elegance and sculptural modernity.”

Everett continues, “This brooch was manufactured by the renowned Parisian jewelry house René Boivin, under whom Suzanne Belperron worked as a principal designer during the late 1920s and early 1930s.” The Sotheby’s Vice Chairman said, “The significance of this piece lies not only in its artistry but also in its place within Belperron’s groundbreaking career.

Belperron was one of the most influential jewelry designers of the 20th century, celebrated for rejecting conventional settings and emphasizing bold forms, fluid lines, and the intrinsic beauty of materials like rock crystal. Her collaboration with Boivin helped shape the avant-garde aesthetic that defined French jewelry design between the World Wars.”

The brooch was offered shortly after in Sotheby’s A Legacy of Elegance: Jewels from an Exceptional Collection auction that December, and was expected to fetch between $20,000 and $30,000. The brooch was even exhibited in a public preview at Sotheby’s new global headquarters at the Breuer Building on Madison Avenue.

J.Law Makes Hot Dogs Look Chic

Lawrence hit the red carpet at the New York City premiere of her new film, Die My Love, wearing a chic off-the-shoulder classic black Christian Dior dress and a diamond David Webb necklace.

Sotheby’s Director of Jewelry, Frank Everett, says, “The Diamond ‘Hot Dog’ Necklace by David Webb is an exceptional example of the bold and playful design language that defined the American jeweler’s mid-20th-century work.” He continues, “Crafted in 18-karat gold and platinum, and accented with diamonds and black enamel, the necklace embodies Webb’s trademark combination of sculptural form, luxurious materials, and striking contrast.”

The 18-karat gold, platinum, black enamel, and diamond ‘Hot Dog’ necklace by David Webb earned its amusing moniker for its oblong, cylinder-shaped enamel plates, connected by pavé diamond links. “Nicknamed the ‘Hot Dog’ Necklace for its distinctive tubular links resembling the shape of a hot dog, the piece reflects Webb’s humor, creativity, and his ability to transform everyday forms into high art,” says Everett.

Shortly after, Sotheby’s offered the necklace in its Fine Jewelry auction during Luxury Week. It was expected to sell for between $25,000 and $35,000. The necklace was also exhibited in a public preview at Sotheby’s new global headquarters at the Breuer Building on Madison Avenue.

Lawrence walked the red carpet at the London premiere of her film No Hard Feelings in an embellished black Dior gown with an assortment of sparkling diamond Anita Ko huggie hoop earrings and a statement-making Ana Khouri Phillipa pavé diamond ear cuff, totaling 3 carats, set in 18-karat Fairmined Gold. Styled by Jamie Mizrahi, Lawrence added the impactful piece to an otherwise dainty earscape.

Old Hollywood, New Diamond Energy

Lawrence walked the red carpet at the premiere of the French thriller Anatomie D’une Chute (Anatomy of a Fall) during the 2023 Cannes Film Festival, wearing a bright crimson Christian Dior haute couture gown.

The actress channeled Old Hollywood glamour with her scrolling zigzag diamond necklace. Dior’s creative director for jewelry, Victoire de Castellane, found inspiration in the 1951 couture creations of the house’s founder, Christian Dior. The piece was crafted in 18-karat white gold and set with over 10 carats of white diamonds.

The $3 Million Oscars Look With a Twist

Nominated for her role in American Hustle and acting as a presenter at the 2014 Academy Awards, Lawrence wore a bold red strapless Dior gown with $3 million worth of Neil Lane diamonds, including an infinity necklace that scooped down her back, similar to her 2013 Oscars style playbook.

Neil Lane told The Diamond Collective, “That was a fun one.” He recalls, “I give a lot of credit to her team, her stylists. They have a great, great [responsibility] to bring a level of individuality. They did not want a ‘typical’ jewel.”

The renowned jeweler explains, “It was so ethereal. I had this rock crystal, platinum, and diamond necklace by Chaumet from the 1920s. It was a long sautoir.”

After acquiring the vintage piece from a royal estate, Chaumet later informed Lane that the necklace was actually missing six links that were being sold at a show in Europe, and he felt compelled to buy them to complete the jewel.

He remembers, “They tried on so many different jewels, but nothing worked,” at first. Then, “I didn’t know how Jennifer was going to wear it. I was watching it on TV, and she wore it as a back chain!” When the actress adorably took a tumble at the awards ceremony for the second year in a row, Lane remembers fearing, “‘Oh my, I hope she doesn’t crack the rock crystal!’ But she got up; it was perfect. Nothing was wrong.”

“It was a subtle, wonderful look that was magical on the red carpet,” he says. “You can’t really predict those. If she wore it the other way, it would have been nice, but it would not have had that magic. I think the jewel was perfect. It got a lot of attention. It was just exquisite. It didn’t seem fussy or overdone. I think those kinds of looks are very memorable because they appear very organic, very natural.”

The Backward Necklace That Started It All

Winning Best Actress for Silver Linings Playbook, Lawrence famously tripped over her voluminous Christian Dior Couture ivory number while climbing the ceremony steps to receive her Academy Award in 2013.

The actress took her memorable look a few steps further with loads of Chopard diamonds. Lawrence wore 12-carat diamond drop earrings and a captivating ring, but what really completed the ensemble was her thin, trailing necklace with 74 carats of diamonds, draped along her clavicle. With 150 diamond links, the long necklace cascaded down her back.
